It’s not just Tumblr, people. This shit is getting ridiculous.

lunariagold

Of course it’s not Tumblr!

They came for Craigslist personals first because that’s the oldest trick in the book: Sneakily taking down the ‘perverts’ under the guise of vague, high morality goals and working slowly up from the bottom, picking off larger and larger targets. Few people cared about CL because of the stereotype of scary unwashed creeps trawling for sex online. That wasn’t so familiar or cute so it was fair game.

Tumblr is biting at the ‘artists’ heels and suddenly there is a bit more noise, because artists aren’t supposed to be treated like shit, are they? However even now the hair-splitting over what’s porn and therefore garbage and not-art shows that attitudes are not so different. It’s still the same divisive, dangerous us v.s. them mentality that is so easily exploited.

This is why when people tell me I shouldn’t worry about this because ‘my art isn’t porn anyway’ it makes me angry. It means so much more than drawings or a silly blog. This is about people being slowly phased out of their freedoms, rights and agency. History has shown time and time again that whenever power wants to make a crushing move backwards, it comes for what it declares ‘obscene’ first. People are raised to be scared and ignorant of sex so it’s an easy gateway. When they come cracking down on sex is when we most need to pay very close attention. They are not protecting us.

Article 13 NEEDS TO BE STOPPED!!!

I DON’T CARE IF YOU’RE NOT EUROPEAN!!!!

THIS WILL AFFECT THE WAY EVERYONE USES THE INTERNET!

DO YOUR RESEARCH!

CALL/EMAIL YOUR MEPs!

KEEP THIS HORRIBLE LAW FROM GETTING PASSED!!!

garbagefromeightyseven

Just fyi this will likely affect non-Europeans as well. It’s easier for a website like YouTube to just restrict ALL copyright instead of just sectioning off what they need to. They’ll probably let bigger YouTubers still operate, but small time content creators will be a thing of the past.

With Tumblr banning porn, and Article 13, SESTA/FOSTA attempting to make saying lewd things on the internet illegal, this anime is more relevant than ever before.

Yeah if you didn’t know, Facebook is now banning people for saying sexual things too.

We’ve all joked about it but it really does seem like the beginning of a war against porn.

im pretty sure red and blue weren’t programmed but just sort of… mutated into cartridges

prettyflyforajeskai

Red and blue are why QA teams were invented

biggaybunny

for fuck’s sake they weren’t badly programmed. They were bleeding edge. It’s so easy to forget that but Red and Blue were literally pushing the limits of what they could fit on the cartridge.

They used every trick in the book. In that way, the programming behind them is GENIUS. It’s frankly a lost art, in this era where hardware is insanely cheap and scalable, when you can just keep throwing more resources at the problem. But Red & Blue were when programmers had to get creative. Not currently using a piece of memory? Repurpose it, we can’t just leave it lying around. Only have a couple registers? Juggle them, keep careful track so we can restore them when we needed. Does this data need to be single purpose, or can we also use it for, say, a seed value?

And all this WORKED. I guarantee you 99% of children playing this never saw a bug in casual play. MODERN games are buggier by a landslide. Remember when X&Y came out and there was an ENTIRE CITY you couldn’t save in because it’d DELETE YOUR SAVE? Imagine that happening in the days of Red&Blue. It couldn’t have. I can turn on my red cartridge TODAY and have it work. And the bugs that did exist, those edge cases they missed? They produce this behavior because the game REFUSES TO CRASH. Sure, you can make it crash if you try hard enough, but goddamn it’s resilient. It just plugs away with garbage data in memory for as long as possible.

Y'all looking down from your 64-bit quad-core smartphones with 128GB SD cards like Red & Blue were programmed by amateurs. What, you also going to bitch that the Wright Brothers didn’t make a jet engine? These are artifacts from pioneers who wrote the goddamn book that others would use as gospel.

Sincerely,
a pissed off goddamn programmer.

celestialmechanic

The Game Boy has 8 kilobytes of RAM. Most of the icons on this site could not fit into the working memory of a Game Boy intact.

sindri42

If somebody tried to make Pokemon Blue today it would take them like 1.2 GB and require a 500 MB day one patch to function properly. Those programmers were fucking wizards.

This is absolutely disgusting.

This child is NOT trans. He doesn’t meet ANY of the requirements to diagnose a child with dysphoria. Not a god damn single one! And yet, in only a short time, he may be FORCED to undergo chemical castration (which can be FORCED ON HIM at the age of 8). When given the CHOICE, he overwhelmingly choosing boys clothes, games, friends, and his BIRTH name, JAMES. His mother, however, ONLY gives him girls clothes, games, and requires him and everyone else to call him Luna.

I support trans people. Hell, even kids should be allowed to experiment with their gender identity. But this is not him CHOOSING to experiment as “Luna”. This is a little boy with a far left mother who wants to make the choice FOR HIM, regardless of what HE wants.

This boy may be forced to undergo a seriously invasive, IRREVERSIBLE, medical procedure because his ideologue mother and a quack “doctor” who even admits he doesn’t meet the criteria (BUT IS STILL SUPPORTING HIS TRANSITION) want him to.

LET.

BOYS.

BE.

BOYS.

Please support his dad in his efforts to get his son back before he is forced to go through with this procedure.

goatyellsateverything

BY THE WAY!

If you are trans or a trans activist, YOU SHOULD BE EQUALLY PISSED OFF ABOUT THIS.

Because when people claim to be trans (or are forced to) it only delegitimizes ACTUALLY TRANS PEOPLE.

And, specifically for James, if this isn’t stopped he WILL devolve into depression and dysphoria latter in life BECAUSE HE ISN’T TRANS. If James is forced to live as Luna, he WILL be at a REALLY FUCKING HIGH PROBABILITY of committing SUICIDE.

Think I’m being hyperbolic? Go ask David Reimer what its like to be FORCED to transition and live as a girl for a large chunk of his life. OH. WAIT. YOU FUCKING CANT ASK HIM BECAUSE HE FUCKING KILLED HIMSELF. [source]

Not to panic more but twitter is probably about to do the same thing as tumblr

carbonoid-nsfw

So I just read up more on what the actual fuck is going on and what this means for NSFW content creators and this twitter thread really explains everything and why no amount of petition signing is going to change the direction tumblr, and inevitably twitter, is going

You can read the thread here

While a lot of artists went the ways of newgrounds and HF and mastodon and whatever else, a lot artists (myself included) just moved to Twitter because we were all mostly there already. But I’m not just bringing this up because I care about twitter, twitter definitely sucks, but because NSFW creators are very quickly running out of options.

coffeedaydreams

Seems to explain the things going on with Tumblr lately.

I don’t make a living on nsfw anything, but some of you guys might?

I’m not a huge fan of censorship, so this is just plain worrisome anyway. I’m not entirely sure what to do other than help spread the word. =/

I’m leaving tumblr soon, but having learned about SESTA & FOSTA recently, it’s got me a bit worried about the safety of NSFW creators in particular on major social media outlets.

By conflicting with Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, this set of bills can make entire websites responsible for the content of it’s users, putting them at legal risk if a user posts something the law doesn’t like – so the safest course of action is to play it safe and prohibit users from posting ANY remotely risky stuff – like NSFW content (thanks tumblr). It’s a bit like the EU’s Article 13.

It’s a bill that, on the surface, looks like it’s supposed to do good, but I’m not under the impression that it’s doing much more than harm – and it’s a step closer to the censorship of sexual expression, which I’m not really cool with, especially right after what’s happened to tumblr – effectively disrupting the livelihood of creators and purveyors of anything NSFW. Like you and I.

Maybe it won’t be an issue, MAYBE it’s an overreaction… but it’s currently on my mind and it has me worried. So perhaps, if you were previously unaware of the circumstances, you should be made aware.

Because after Net-Neutrality’s Repeal, Article 13, and tumblr metaphorically shitting on us, I’m not particularly optimistic…

So perhaps you should get in contact with your representatives and, like… Set them straight.

I don’t like talking about these big, world-changey politic-analogous stuff on my tumblr, but since we’re going to be burying my tumblr soon, I guess there’s not much of a point.

Censored on tumblr

lovesicksick

What all ask boxes look like for me (submission boxes look exactly the same):

Left: what happens when I try to open dms (New Message does nothing); I can’t even read them. Right: when I try to go to someone’s dms from their blog.

Neither new things I post nor old things I post show up in the tags they’re in, even if they were before.

I can type things into replies, but it won’t actually post them.

Since it doesn’t seem this one has been encountered by many people yet, maybe reblog this so people know about it. I’m probably getting deleted though

ask-a-yandere

Tumblr is shadowbanning people and they aren’t even trying to be subtle about it.

Please spread the word.

lovesicksick

I’m glad this is spreading but simultaneously it makes it sound like the shadowban is much less severe than it is because I didn’t realize, and this shadowban is so severe I can’t even add on / tell anyone that.

All my likes, reblogs, and replies are hidden from the notes of EVERY post.

When I like or rb things it doesn’t show notes in someone’s activity / dash, except long-time followers (not sure about the exact cutoff/conditions).

If I reblogged and added something to this from a non-follower they wouldn’t even know. Check and see: my rb’s don’t even show up in the notes. So people couldn’t even find out I added something on by checking the notes either:

Not to mention: I’m hidden from all searches, can’t be @’d, past @’s of me are hidden from my notes, I don’t get notified when people reply to a post I replied to, my @’s don’t give notes, and every search on my blog is blanked. I can’t even ask/submit to myself even with anons, and lots more.

Oh, yeah, and: MY BLOG ISN’T EVEN MARKED NSFW. Every flagged post I’ve found was restored. But every flagged post you contest brings attention to you that risks you just getting shadowbanned randomly.

lovesicksick

THIS is the version that should get spread around…
